Care must be taken to always keep the corks at the tenon-and-socket joints well greased
These should never be allowed to dry out. In this way these will keep their elasticity securing the three bores in place. To grease them use special grease stick tubes, placing a tiny amount of grease on your fingertips and applying gently on the cork surface. A small grease sample is provided in the instrument case. No force should be used to assemble and disassemble the instrument. If the instrument seems too stiff do not hesitate to grease it well wiping off any excess grease.

After having passed a swab through the bore, wipe the keys with a microfibre cloth as soon as you are finished playing in order to keep the shine on the keys.
Alternatively a cotton cloth works as well, but to avoid scratches, use the care cloth only for your instrument. Once a year, bring your instrument to your favorite oboe repair person. He/she will check if the keys have not been bent and if the pads are still flexible. He will also check the axis screws and oil the keys if necessary.

While playing, you also blow moisture which condenses in the bore.
It is therefore necessary to dry the drill after each use. You can use either a swab or a feather for this. With a swab you have to be careful that it does not get stuck in the instrument. Before passing it, check that there is no knot or that it is not folded on itself. With a feather you have to be careful that it is very flexible, change it often. In any case, disassemble your instrument and pass either the swab or the feather through the upper body then the lower body. For the pavilion, you can use a cloth that will only be used for that. You must dry your instrument at least at the end of your lesson, your rehearsal or your concert, before storing it in its case. It is recommended to oil your bore. For this, place a drop or two of a mixture of almond and orange oil in the pierce of the upper body. You leave the body bent over for 30 minutes so that the drops slide down the bore. Then you pass a feather or a swab, preferably not the one used to dry the bore. Do this every two months, or more often if you gamble heavily. This will protect the wood of your instrument.
